 Precautions, Tips & Tricks:

Trimming Wick
  • The first rule of candle care is to always trim your wick 1/4" prior to each use or when the wick mushrooms. This will allow the candle to have a longer burn time.
  • Prior to each use, turn the solidified candle upside down and with a paper towel or wick trimmer, trim the wick or remove mushrooms left by the previous burn.
  • Turning the candle upside down will prevent the burnt wick from falling into the candle.

    Burning Candle

    • The first time you burn your candle it is important to wait 3-4 hours or until wax pool liquifies to the edge of the container. Once the wax pool is completely melted on top, then blow out the candle.
    • If you blow out the candle too quickly the wax has "memory" and it will stay in this position for the length of the burn. Once your candle have a memory ring it will continue to tunnel downwards throughout the life of the candle.
    • A rule of thumb is to burn the candle one hour for every inch diameter of the vessel.

     Safety Tips

    • Candles can be a fire hazard if it is not used properly. The following should be considered to ensure safety when burning candle at home.

-Do not leave candles burning unattended, including falling asleep or leaving the house.

-Burn candles away from things that can catch fire (i.e. bedding, curtains, decorations and clothing).

-Burning candles should be out of reach of children and pets.

-Follow the burning instructions on the caution sticker on candles and wax melts.

    -Keep wick trimmed to 1/4"

-Burn candles in a well-ventilated area.

How To Fix Tunneling Candles: The Aluminum Foil Method

    • Cut the appropriate amount of aluminum foil to completely cover the top of your candle vessel.
    • Wrap this tightly around your candle vessel.
    • Light your candle and allow the heat to spread.
    • Aluminum foil will retain the heat inside longer and give enough time for the sides to melt.
Use a Blow Dryer To Fix Minor Tunneling

If you forgot to let the wax pool reach the edge on the first burn, you're probably going to be left with a less-than-ideal memory ring (AKA the precursor to tunneling).

Luckily, if you catch it early enough, there's a quick fix.

Blast the top of the candle with a hair dryer on high heat.

Simply hold the airflow over the top of the candle until the top layer of wax has melted.

Why is my soy wax frosting?

-Frosting is actually a unique and natural effect of using vegetable waxes, especially soy.

-The wax is trying to return back to its natural form and as a result it begins to crystallize.

-It doesn't affect the performance of the candle in any way and also means your wax is 100% natural.

    Re-using Vessels.

    • Place the candle in the freezer for several hours or until frozen. Once frozen the wax should pop out but loosen it with a butter knife if needed.
    • Scrape off any residue and then clean the container with soap and water.

Is dried flowers safe to put in candles?

It is safe to put dried flowers in your candles depending on the type. It is important to position the flowers correctly to avoid a fire hazard. For instance, flowers should be placed closer to the sides of the vessel and away from the wick. As long as flowers do not come into direct contact with the candle wick when it is lit, it is safe.
